The current situation of the aquifers in Mexico caused by their overexploitation poses a foreseeable horizon of depletion and contamination by natural and anthropogenic sources. The present work proposes the implementation of an alternative aimed at contributing to the availability of water through the artificial recharge of groundwater in the overexploited aquifer "Calera", located in the municipality of Morelos, through the reclaimed water of the “Osiris” Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) located in the municipality of Guadalupe (Zacatecas, Mexico). For this purpose, the reclaimed water quality was analyzed based on the specifications of the Official Mexican Standards NOM-014-CONAGUA-2003 and NOM-127-SSA1-1994, proposing alternatives for those parameters that were outside the maximum permissible limits. Likewise, an area within the aquifer was selected through geographic information systems, identifying a site with adequate edaphic conditions to perform the artificial recharge of groundwater. The results showed that the site soil has a sandy-loam texture with beneficial chemical interaction for microbiota proliferation. In contrast, the effluent analyzes showed some parameters outside both standards like Arsenic (0.12 mg/L), total coliforms (150 NMP/mL), total dissolved solids (1,456 mg/L), and BOD5 (55 mg/L). Hence, modifications in the treatment train of the WWTP were proposed based on the secondary settler and the UV disinfection equipment with the proposal that the reclaimed water complies with the standards and the artificial recharge of groundwater could be feasibly performed.
