The presence of emerging pollutants in aquatic bodies is a current problematic that has generated concern in recent years due to their specific modes of action that have provided a risk for non-target organisms. Zooplankton organisms naturally inhabit aquatic bodies and are widely used in ecotoxicological tests for their sensitivity to changes and pollution in the environment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of 2 emerging pollutants: dibutil phthalate and triclosan on cladoceran species. These pollutants were chosen because, despite being banned in various parts of the world, they are still used in several industries process around some countries. Unfortunately, so far there is no law regulating the pollution caused by these pollutants in Mexico. In order to quantify the necessary data, an exposure control parameter was determined by means of the median lethal concentration (LC50, 24 h); This was applied to 3 different species of cladocerans, Daphnia laevis, Ceriodaphnia dubia and Moina macrocopa. These species were chosen because of their wide distribution in water bodies in Mexico; which are similar to some species used into the international normative and the indirect contact with these contaminants is very likely to happen. The LC50 values were obtained in concentrations of µg L-1. The most sensitive species was Daphnia laevis being exposed to dibutil phthalate and Ceriodaphnia dubia being exposed to triclosan. Moina macrocopa turned out to be the most resistant species. However, further studies are suggested considering the entire life cycle and throughout generations.
